How Real-Time Clinical Trial Data Helped STORM Therapeutics Raise a $56M Series C

About

STORM Therapeutics

About STORM Therapeutics: Spun out of Cambridge University, STORM Therapeutics is a clinical-stage oncology company developing novel cancer therapies that target RNA modifications. Its lead product, STC-15, is a first-in-class oral METTL3 inhibitor currently in a Phase 2 study in select sarcomas. Marguerite Hutchinson leads business development and operations, where she oversees how the company's clinical progress is presented to investors, partners, and the scientific community.

The Challenge: Limited Visibility into Their Own Trial Data

The moments that define a clinical-stage biotech, whether it's a regulatory submission, a financing round, or an abstract for a major congress, come down to one thing: the ability to show reliable, convincing trial data. Heading toward its Series C raise and a presentation at ASCO, STORM needed exactly that.

Like many biotechs, STORM relies on external vendors and CROs for visibility into its trial data, which means accessing clinical data depends on someone else's timeline. Producing even a standard visualization means going through outside parties rather than reaching the data directly, often a wait of several weeks.

"We had no way of visualizing data from our ongoing clinical trial with confidence... our CRO could not do an interim analysis waterfall plot."

Day-to-day tracking happened in spreadsheets, which made maintaining a single source of truth cumbersome as data arrived from multiple sources.

"Before Rivia, our team was receiving spreadsheets from the CRO to track patient data outside the EDC. And that was extremely difficult and cumbersome because every week there was a new spreadsheet, and the data was inconsistent from the last one, and different from the EDC."

With a financing round and ASCO on the horizon, this reliance on outside parties was the one thing standing between STORM and the fast, credible view of its data those moments demanded.

The Turning Point: Instant Access to Clean, Reliable Data

Connected directly to STORM's trial data, including EDC, lab and PK data, the Rivia platform enabled  the team to interrogate dose-response  signals independently, in real time, without waiting on a CRO. The first major test came at ASCO, where STORM presented a subset analysis of its Phase 1. Using Rivia, the team generated a range of complex oncology visualisations, including swimmer plots, and iterated on them freely as their thinking evolved. The resulting visuals helped showcase the compelling clinical evidence and the response spoke for itself.

"We were able to organize the poster in such a way that these graphs generated by Rivia were really the highlight, and people spent a lot of time looking at them."
"The allocated time for poster presentations is three or four hours, but we were in front of our poster for over 5 hours with people coming up and asking us questions. We were absolutely mobbed."

The same evidence that won the room at ASCO carried directly into the company's $56M Series C. They were able to share clean, credible visualizations with investors on-demand, often overnight.

"As we were getting ready for our Series C round, we knew that we needed to generate very reliable, clean, crisp visualizations of the data from our Phase 1 study... So Rivia was actually the best resource for this."

The Outcome: A More Confident, Credible Company

With full, real-time visibility into its own trial data, STORM changed how they present themselves, and how they are perceived:

"I think we're no longer perceived as kind of a startup garage type of operation... We're now perceived as a much more professionalized, driven to development type of organization with people who know what they are doing and know how to represent the data."

For STORM, the value is clear, direct access to its own data, in real time, without the cost of building it in-house or the delays of waiting on anyone else's schedule.

"I would highly recommend Rivia to other small or large biotech companies that are looking for a direct view into the EDC without having to build it themselves... I think there's no better alternative."
